Toddler/Preschool Lead & Assistant Teacher

Position Summary

The Toddler/Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality care and education in accordance with Washington State licensing regulations and Sonflower Early Learning's philosophy. Teachers create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom where children grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Responsibilities

  • Provide loving, responsive, and attentive care throughout the day.

  • Create a warm, safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment.

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum and learning experiences.

  • Support children's cognitive, language, literacy, math, science, creative, physical, social-emotional, and spiritual development.

  • Teach Bible stories, worship songs, prayer, and Christian values in age-appropriate ways.

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and coworkers.

  • Maintain active supervision to ensure children's health and safety at all times.

  • Observe children's development and communicate appropriately with families.

  • Follow daily classroom routines including meals, diapering/toileting, rest time, transitions, and outdoor play.

  • Prepare learning materials and maintain an organized classroom.

  • Clean and sanitize classroom materials, toys, and equipment according to health and safety standards.

  • Follow all DCYF licensing regulations, program policies, and health and safety procedures.

  • Participate in staff meetings, required training, and professional development.

  • Assist with family events, field trips, special activities, and program celebrations.

  • Collaborate with the Director and teaching team to provide an exceptional learning environment.

  • Model Christ-like love, kindness, integrity, and professionalism in daily interactions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working in a licensed childcare center.

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework, certificate, or degree (or currently working toward completion).

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agreement with the Christian mission of Sonflower Early Learning.

  • Passion for teaching and caring for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Dependable, responsible, patient, and positive.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Commitment to creating a nurturing classroom culture and promoting unity among staff.

  • STARS training completed.

  • Experience implementing curriculum.

  • Knowledge of Washington State DCYF licensing regulations.

  • Experience with toddler and preschool classrooms.

Washington State Requirements

Employees must complete or maintain:

  • DCYF Portable Background Check

  • Child Care Basics (or approved equivalent)

  • Pediatric First Aid & CPR Certification

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training

  • Food Worker Card

  • Required DCYF annual professional development hours

  • All pre-service training and licensing requirements before working independently with children

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

  • Walk, stand, bend, kneel, squat, twist, and reach throughout the day.

  • Sit on the floor and actively participate in children's play and learning.

  • Lift and carry children and classroom materials weighing 35 pounds or more.

  • Push, pull, and move classroom furniture and equipment.

  • Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

  • Respond quickly during emergencies while maintaining active supervision
